Project New Media Literacies Resource on the Ning

Those of you with sharp eyes may have noticed a new tab on the ISTE Ning ("Learning Library" in the last tab position). The Learning Library is a MacArthur-funded resource created by Project New Media Literacies at MIT, with Henry Jenkins as the Principal Investigator and Erin Reilly as the Research Director.

This fabulous project provides resources around media literacy, attribution, and digital citizenship. The project team is trying to get as many organizations and individuals as possible to install the widget and begin using it. It's in an early version and they're looking for feedback--that's where you come in! Click on the Learning Library tab here on the Ning to get started, and let us know what you think of the resource.

(When you're getting ready to upload your own challenges, notice the terrific attribution guidelines built into this tool--one of my very favorite elements of this project.)

I don't think there is a black and white answer to this. I think that in every content area most will agree that there are some basic facts that should be committed to memory, but I'm more concerned with a student being able to use their resources t…

Yes! If I were a school principal and were asked, “Do you require your teachers to be proficient in technology before being hired?” I would feel strongly unsettled if I had no measure of proving that my teachers are technology proficient. Teachers n…
