Rubrics? Assessing tech literacy - internationally (PISA and NAEP)

I just heard some interesting news about assessment and the NETS - technology standards for students. A key group from around the world gathered this past weekend to determine how best to assess 21st Century Skills. You may have read that PISA is looking to add these items to their 2012 or 2015 assessment. Here is a link to PISA if you need more information on it's international benchmarking on student performance. http://www.pisa.oecd.org/pages/0,3417,en_32252351_32235907_1_1_1_1_...

The group identified that formative assessment is essential in preparation for the larger PISA assessment. The ISTE NETS standards were acknowledged as a valued resource in this process.

Since NAEP will be adding an assessment for Tech Literacy in 2012 there will be more attention to technology and assessing skills over the next few years. http://www.eschoolnews.com/resources/measuring-21st-century-skills/...

Does anyone have technology rubrics already in place in their schools? I would love to see some samples of how rubrics are already being used in schools.

Thanks,
Michelle

Michelle,
We also would like to find rubrics for technology literacy assessment. Our school district uses standards-based assessment for all content areas K-8. Those content areas have rubrics that teachers use to assess students' achievement of curriculum standards:

Our goal is to develop rubrics for technology, as well. This summer, several Kirkwood teachers will be working to review the ISTE standards, identify classroom activities that incorporate the standards, and develop some rubrics to assess technology literacy.

Michelle,
Have you ever seen the Assessing Projects Tool on the Intel® Teach website? They have a collection of technology assessment rubrics and facilitation materials. They are free, downloadable, customizable and free of copyright. Take a look when you can. I'm an Intel® Teach Senior Trainer in NY. I can help if you have any questions.

Now that the refresh of the student, teacher, and administrator standards are complete, ISTE is turning its' attention to rubrics and other NETS resources. We'll have a work session at NECC to get feedback and are hoping to have a foundational student rubric available by mid-August for planning.

We also want to know what other resources people want or need to implement the NETS.

Thanks,

I am so glad to hear that there will be student rubrics developed for the latest revision of the NETS-S. This July, when Kirkwood staff members gather to review the NETS-S, NETS student profiles and best practices in technology integration, our goal is to identify grade level expectations for technology literacy that are specific to Kirkwood students' classroom experiences. Rubrics would be essential to teachers' assessment of students' technology proficiency. Is there space for our committee to join ISTE's rubric development effort? Or, if much of the work is complete, could a draft of the rubrics be available to our committee in July?

Hi Carolyn,

Were rubrics created at the sessions during NECC? If not, perhaps sending an announcement to all to find out if we should create a space to collect (and co-create) them would be best. We are very excited to see the move towards technology literacy and 21st century skills assessments as well!

It looks like there is a wiki set up to develop NETS-S rubrics?

http://nets-implementation.iste.wikispaces.net/Rubrics

Is there any word from NECC about rubric development?

Blanca--You can download and review the draft summary rubric at www.iste.org/nets-rubric-survey.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
