FREE WEBINAR: “Yes! You Can Make Video Games, Too!”

DATE:  Friday, December 2, 2011

TIME:   9am PST / 10am MST / 11am CST / 12pm EST

Engage students by having them create their own edu-games with a FREE and EASY-to-use game development tool! Join SIGGS on December 2nd to learn about GameMaker – an interactive tool that teaches basic game programming logic without using a single line of technical code. GameMaker is great for introducing new/novice students to the world of video game programming, and can be used at almost any grade level. In this Webinar, Pete Dulany will demonstrate sample games within GameMaker, how to make basic game modifications, provide real-world classroom examples, and share his seven years of experience with GameMaker in the classroom. The session will conclude with ideas for inclusion across the curriculum, research to support video games as a valid method of teaching computer programming, and a question/answer session.

Dear ISTE SIGIS Members,

As we continue to build SIGIS, we are looking for input from you, our members, to help us determine the services and offerings that would be most beneficial. We invite you to share your thoughts and ideas by responding to the following survey.

This survey was created to help us learn more about the needs of our membership and to plan future activities. We value your thoughtful responses as they guide us in our future discussions and plans.

To complete the survey, please click on the following URL:

http://bit.ly/q33n0G

The survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete. We will be sharing some of the cumulative results on our wiki in early November.  No personal information will be disclosed.

Thank you and we look forward to reading your responses.

Greetings All!

SIGIS is organizing a dinner for members to meet and share ideas, thoughts, and camaraderie.  We have set up a reservation at Parc Bistro
(http://www.parc-restaurant.com) for Sunday June 26 @ 7:15pm.  The restaurant is in historic Rittenhouse Square and is about a 15 minute walk from the convention center.  The reviews we have gotten for this restaurant have been great ("wonderful", "delightful").

If you are interested in joining, please RSVP to Marti Weston (mweston@gds.org) no later than noon on June 21.

We hope to see you there!

Hi SIGIS members! If you're going to be in Philadelphia the weekend of the conference, and are looking for some innovative technology ideas to implement in your school, check out my hands-on workshop using Game Maker. This user-friendly software encourages students to "think outside of the box" and create their own interactive video games. This software makes creating games more than "easy" with its simplistic and clutter-free interface! You and your students will be creating games in no time at all! The best part is watching your classroom transform into an active, collaborative and cooperative student-led learning environment. Kick it up a notch by having students create core content educational games that they and their peers can play! There is so much to tell and so many benefits, you have to come hear about it and experience it for yourself!!

You check out and sign up for my session here. Join me for this fun and informative workshop! Know that the Lite or Standard version of Game Maker is FREE for both PC and Mac! However, I have some PRO version licenses (for either platform) to GIVE away; so hurry and sign up before it's too late!

I look forward to seeing you there! :o)

SIGIS will be conducting a summer book club. Officially beginning on June 1st, we will be using the ISENET Ning (http://isenet.ning.com) as our gathering point to discuss the book.

We are excited to announce that book that we have selected is "A New Culture of Learning: Cultivating the Imagination for A World of Constant Change" by Douglas Thomas and John Seely Brown.

As a culminating event, we will also be hosting a webinar sometime between mid-August and early September (time and date to be confirmed) with John Seely Brown.

Be watching for more details.
