Larry,

If there is anything we can do in Arizona to help you, let us know.

Thanks Chris,

I actually joined AzTEA. At a recent online NMSTE meeting, heard Ferdi comment on things going on in Arizona regarding 21rst learning. Also, have had an email or two from Peggy George (Phoenix AZTEA) and the "4 Corners" regional ISTE vision.

What NMSTE needs to do now is start offering services to New Mexico teachers that would enhance their technology skills. A yearly set of conferences would be great, as well as smaller miniconferences. I come from AZTEA but am now a member of NMSTE. AZTEA started small, but as each year of conferences was held, they have continued to improve and grow. Arizona is eager to help us.

Hi Larry,
I didn't see your response to Linda so maybe it's in cyberspace somewhere. But I just wanted to say that I think NMSTE is off to an incredible start! I am so impressed with all of the communication I receive from the listserv about the many things you are promoting/encouraging and I think in some ways you are fast moving ahead of AzTEA in your organization and implementation! I keep sharing your newsletters and projects with AzTEA folks saying "look at this--we should do something like this." Your vision is perfect and it will just take awhile to grow your members so you have enough people to meet all of the demands--especially with so many rural areas. Keep up the great work! I definitely plan to keep following you even though I live in AZ and can't participate in things face-to-face. One thing we are planning to do this year in our Westside AzTEA chapter (where I am co-chair) is to start ustreaming our monthly meetings and all of our workshops. That way people will know what they are missing and can view it from the archives if they can't attend in person. We're hoping that will help reach more people. One of our local district tech directors is starting to ustream her monthly teacher professional development workshops so teachers can view them live from their own schools and not have to travel. Teachers are loving it! I can promote it in AzTEA also so outsiders can participate and share their expertise via chat in ustream. I even promote it on Twitter with my PLN and they join in whenever possible. It's very exciting! We are also planning a social event to invite all of the tech teachers/leaders/directors/coordinators from the West Valley to help raise awareness. We have a core of active members but there are a lot we aren't reaching. As things develop, I'll let you know.

Yes, my Lindy response IS in cyberspace twilight zone (I push the wrong button). Thanks for the NMSTE pep talk from AzTEA. I think things NM and AZ are moving to an inevitable collaboration. We DO have a small and active organization. We have been able to plug into very strong state-wide and local education technology initiatives around NM. As for the 4 Corners ISTE Regional connection - Great Idea! Need to get Colorado and Utah on board. NECC 2010 is in Denver – seems like an ideal time to make ourselves known.

Anytime you can login into one of our WIMBA meeting sessions...stop by and say HI.

This is all so encouraging! Thank you. I hear and see such wonderful stuff from AZTEA we are grateful for any help and support! We do have a wonderful core group of stellar volunteers in New Mexico. And we have many groups that are very supportive of us because of ISTE's strong presence and resources. Thank you all so much and I look forward to reading more on the Ning!

We keep collaborating and growing our professional members! One example of collaboration is this threaded discussion from earlier this year about District Internet Blocking Solutions and Suggetions.

Having just endured my first E-Rate season, the thought occurred to me that our buying power as a group could be formidable. The undertaking would likely be cumbersome but, given the ability to share technology and strategies with each other, we might be able to come up with a long-term plan that could form the basis for a co-op.

Just a random thought on a much-needed vacation day ....
