Hi Liz - I agree with your comments that schools are places for normalising and socialising children, and there is certainly a need to have an educator present to enable and steer young minds. I think we are in an era when being 'online' is a realit…

This is a big topic of conversation in L&L (ISTE's member magazine). You should check out L&L Editor Kate Conley's Issue Oriented column in the Sept./Oct. issue, which was inspired in part by the feature on online learning programs in that issue, e-…

I definitely agree that online learning will never be able to replace classroom learning. There is such a social aspect to being in a classroom that I think kids need in order to learn how to interact in the world. However, there is no avoiding the…

I definitely agree with you and the others about how the Internet and technology is becoming more important and more usable in the classroom. Technology is something that we all must learn to deal with in our everyday lives, and incorporating it int…

The world of technology has certainly enhanced those classrooms that have teachers dedicated to its use in the school environment. This is especially true for social studies classrooms. Through technologies such as the internet or the SmartBoard, st…

I find this topic interesting because I have never been a very technologically savvy person, and when I first began studying to be a teacher I pictured myself lecturing to students, and using an overhead projector if I was feeling really fancy. Obvi…

Liz, I agree with you that technology is a part of students' everyday lives and therefore it is important for teachers and future teachers to incorporate technology in the classroom. Although technology is something I use everyday for classes and to…

I think that this topic is so interesting because it allows us to see how much time is changing and how as a teacher we need to progress with it. Learning can be so difficult sometimes for a student who is constantly just listening to the same teach…

Thanks, Liz, for your remarks. Perhaps we need to think of blending online and F2F as a differentiated instruction of sorts, or at least as differentiated delivery mechanisms to engage students in a variety of ways and in a variety of places.

Hi LIz, I would like to reply to your comment that online learning cannot necessarily teach students how to work with others effectively. There are a variety of online tools that create excellent collaborative and communicative learning experiences…

Hi Liz!

Welcome to the ISTE Community Ning! You are now an important member of a year round social network where educators can share tech ideas, resources, questions and suggestions with affiliated organizations, educational leaders, and ISTE members world-wide. The home page is updated automatically with forum posts and blogs, as well as links to important ISTE sites and tech news. Browse the videos and special interest groups available to you for more specific topics and watch for upcoming events.

I think it is great that you are entering in the education profession and have already found a place to collaborate with some wonderful folks! You really contributed some valuable insight into the question of virtual v. face-to-face education and I enjoyed reading that thread.

You also might consider joining one of the ISTE Special Interest Groups (aka SIGs) in order to get a more focused personal learning group. Here's is a list of the SIGs with links to more information about each group: http://u.nu/42454

Looking forward to your contribution! Glad you joined us!
