Secretary Duncan Announces Innovation Grants

Today, Secretary Duncan announced the release of a notice of priorities for the Investing in Innovation Fund (i3). i3 is a component of the Race to the Top Fund that was created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The i3 Fund, is the only opportunity for local school districts to compete directly at the Federal level for ARRA funds. US Dept. of Education to post information on Race to the Top and other ARRA programs Friday July 24

President's Budget Drastically Cuts EETT Funding

It was a shock this morning when I reviewed President Obama's FY 10 budget that was released today and saw that his budget recommendation reduces funding for the Enhancing Education Through Technology program to $100 million from $269 million for FY 10. The Department of Education has indicated that the $650 million in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for the Enhancing Education Through Technology program will flow to states this summer. Achievement Through Technology and Innovation Act (ATTAIN) Introduced in the Senate

The stimulus is not the only thing happening in DC these days. Get Ready for NEXT WEEK!

The U.S. Department of Education plans to post the state applications for the State Stabilization Fund on Tuesday, March 31. In addition, the Dept. will post a State Stabilization Fund FAQ web-page on Tuesday, that will be comprised of questions that have been submitted so far from schools, districts and states across the country. New Timing for EETT Stimulus Funds

The Department of Education published the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 Timing Spreadsheet -- http://www.ed.gov/policy/gen/leg/recovery/funds/timing.pdf. This spreadsheet indicates that 50 percent of the EETT funds will be disbursed in June/July and the second half in September/October. We don't know if this means that the June/July disbursement will be either all formula or all competitive or if each half will be divided in half at the state level and states will have to disbur… Continue

FY 09 Omnibus Bill Passes and Stimulus Update

Yesterday, the Senate passed the FY 09 Omnibus Appropriations bill that provides $269 million for the Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT, Title II- Part D) program. This amount is a $2 million increase over last year's funding level, and for the first time in many years puts the program on an upward funding path. Department of Education Releases Initial Guidance on Stimulus Funds

The Department of Education released several documents focusing on the disbursement of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (AARA) funds http://www.ed.gov/recovery Most significantly for those of us watching the funding for the Enhancing Education Through Technology program -- Title II - Part D -- is that the $650 million slated for this program will not be disbursed to the states until Fall 2009.
