Yesterday, the Senate passed the FY 09 Omnibus Appropriations bill that provides $269 million for the Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT, Title II- Part D) program. This amount is a $2 million increase over last year's funding level, and for the first time in many years puts the program on an upward funding path. Thanks to the work of ISTE members through the Education Technology Action Network (ETAN) -- www.edtechactionnetwork.org -- we have built congressional support for this critical program that was translated into an increase in funding for FY 09.

I want to remind ISTE members that the EETT program is not the only opportunity under the stimulus package to use funds for technology purchases and professional development around classrom technology. Under the State Stabilization Fund, Local Education Agencys (LEAs) can use these funds to avert layoffs, and spend dollars on programs under NCLB (which includes EETT), as well as IDEA, Perkins Career and Technical Education and the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act. Additionally, The Title I and IDEA programs also provide opportunties for investments in technology.

Good luck at the state capital and thanks for all of WEMTA's efforts via ETAN. If we can recruit some more ETAN members from Congressman Obey's district that would be great!

The timing of this is great. Thanks for your post Hilary. We are a week away from our state conference and the opportunity to speak with our state legislators. I know many of them are counting on information on Federal $, so they can make decsions on our state budget. We will be going to our state capitol next week and we also will encourage our members to make their voices heard in DC through ETAN and encouraging them to register for the Policy Summit and NECC.
