It was a shock this morning when I reviewed President Obama's FY 10 budget that was released today and saw that his budget recommendation reduces funding for the Enhancing Education Through Technology program to $100 million from $269 million for FY 10. ISTE, the Consortium for School Networking, the Software and Information Industry Association and the State Educational Technology Directors Association issued a joint statement this afternoon expressing our grave dissapointment in the President's budget.
As we stated in the joint release, "During the past several months, the Obama Administration has outlined a vision of educational innovation and improvement to enable our nation's children to compete in the global economy. But today’s budget proposal falls far short of the targeted investments needed to ensure all students have the modernized classrooms and technology-rich instruction needed to achieve this vision."
Stay tuned as we mobilize ETAN and make our voices heard that funding EETT at $100 million for FY 10 is not in our nation's interest. Below is a link to the entire press release:
